Computer Center
ITU gives paramount importance to the integration of appropriate information technologies in all aspects of education and research and allocates an important fraction of its resources to keep its IT infrastructure up-to-date.
The ITU Computer Center was founded in 1963. The first important step in renewing and improving the ITU’s IT infrastructure started in 1994. The Ayazağa Campus was wired with fiber-optics and a network system consisting of a mixture of ATM and Ethernet technologies was implemented. In 1999, the ATM network was expanded and four campuses (out of five) are now seamlessly integrated in a high bandwith wide area network.
ITU is connected to the Internet : 155 Mbit/s connection to the Turkish National Academic Network (ULAKNET) and a direct connection to the US via a dedicated 100 Mbit/s link.
In 1996, in accordance with the objective of all ITU graduates using educational technologies, all departments instituted at least two compulsory computer courses in their programs.
A total of 2000 computers are in use in the student labs, all Internet connected. All ITU students have e-mail addresses and area encouraged to build their own Web pages. ITU computing resources area in service 365 days a year and 24 hours a day. Similarly, ITU faculty members are encouraged to develop Web assisted courses via special grants.
Multimedia Center
A Multimedia Center was established at Istanbul Technical University in order to conduct research, develop software and products, and to provide service in these fields. The Multimedia Center uses different kinds of media such as text, voice, image, graphics, animation and video to develop computer assisted and interactive education programs, to transfer cultural products to the computer communication, recognition through fingerprints, model assisted imaging and video compression, industrial image assisted quality control and Turkish vocal synthesis projects. The Center created both the ITU Web site design and ITU Numerical Photograph Album CD. Moreover, it continues to work on a demo CD-ROM for Dolmabahçe Palace.

Software Development Center
A Software Development Center was supported by the TTDF (Turkish Technology Development Foundation) and began its operations in 1996 on the Ayazağa Campus. The Center will form a "software projects support mechanism" in order to contribute to the progress of the domestic software sector. This Center is equipped with the latest technology and is at the service of the university and the software sector.
