Administration
The Rector of a state university is appointed by the President of the Republic of Turkey from among the candidates, holding the academic title 'Professor', proposed by the University Faculty at the call of the existing rector.
Vice-Rectors are appointed by the Rector for a term of five years. The Rector appoints one of his/her Vice-Rectors as the Acting Rector in his/her absence.
Chaired by the Rector, the University Senate consists of the Vice-Rectors, Deans, a faculty member from each faculty, who is elected by the Faculty Council for a term of three years, and the heads of affiliate departments institutes and academies under the Rectorate. The Senate functions as the academic arm of the University. It meets at least twice a year, once at the beginning of the academic year, and once again at the end. However, the Rector can call for additional meetings if he/she should deem it necessary.
Chaired by the Rector, the University Board consists of Deans and three Professors, elected by the University Senate for a term of four years, to represent ITU’s various fields of study. The Board meets at least twice a year, once at the beginning of the academic year, and once again at the end. As with the Senate, the Rector can call for additional meetings if he/she should deem it necessary. The Vice-Rectors may attend these meetings as non-voting members.
