Health Services

The health services for ITU’s 22,000 students and 3,500 academic & administration personnel are provided by the Medical-Social Centers, which are connected to the Health, Culture and Sports Office. These centers are polyclinics, where patients are offered examination, diagnosis and treatment. Outside the polyclinics’ opening hours (9.15-12.00/13.30-17.00) there is always a doctor and nurse on duty for emergency cases. The optic and dental sections run on an appointment basis.

Students requiring medical attention, obtain a form from the registrar’s office of their faculty. They pay a nominal sum (75,000 TL = approx. $0.25) as a contribution to the services provided for them. Should students need or wish to, they can be transferred to any state hospital in Istanbul for further treatment or additional check-ups. Medical prescriptions can be taken to and filled at pharmacies which have a contract with ITU. In these cases, students need pay only 10% of the medicines’ total cost.

Lab tests can be carried at all the polyclinics every day during working hours. Technicians provide such services as blood cell counts, urine tests, bio-chemical tests and gaita checks for both students and personnel alike. On the Ayazaga campus, an ambulance is available during working hours for emergency cases
