Nuclear Sector Agreemnet with Rolls-Royce

ITU signs nuclear sector agreement with Rolls-Royce Istanbul Technical University (ITU), the only university that has a nuclear research reactor in Turkey, signed on 19th of December 2013 a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Rolls-Royce to assess the Turkish nuclear sector.

Rolls-Royce will collaborate with ITU to assess the capability and development needs of the Turkish supply chain to deliver the country's planned feet of civil nuclear reactors.

MoU has been signed in Turkey's Energy Ministry building in Ankara with participation of Turkish Energy Minister Taner Yıldız, Patrick Regis, Rolls-Royce Regional Director for Turkey and Central Asia and Mehmet Karaca, the Rector of Istanbul Technical University.

The MoU provides a roadmap for developing a nuclear qualified supply chain capable of delivering equipment and services to the new reactors planned to be built inTurkey.

The roadmap will also align Research and Development strategies with future market requirements to ensure the latest technology is utilized. The minister said that the project between ITU and Rolls-Royce is a good practice to industry –university cooperation.“

ITU Techno-Park will be a base for the cooperation. Turkish companies will benefit from transferring know-how technology,” he said.

Rolly-Royce Regional Director Patrick Regis said working closely with Istanbul Technical University, the company can support the Turkish government in its plans for a program of civil nuclear power. “ITU is recognized for its academic excellence in nuclear technology."

A strong partnership between our two world-class organisations can contribute significantly to the development and growth of the nuclear supply chain in Turkey,“ he said. The Rector Mehmet Karaca said Rolls-Royce has huge experience in supply chain analysis, engagement and development.

“We are delighted to partner with the company to help Turkish industry to optimize the opportunity that the cooperation will bring in terms of know-how development,” he said.
