International Workshop on Seismic Risk of Historical Structures

International Workshop themed  "Seismic Risk of Historical Structures" was held by İTÜ Earthquake Engineering and Disaster Management Institute. As being  experts in their field, academicians from many countries  attended to the ceremony which took place at Maslak Campus, Süleyman Demirel Cultural Center, November 3-5 ,2014.

Prof. Dr. Mehmet Karaca, Our Rector who made the opening speech of the workshop emphasized that earthquake is a fact including many aspects and the preservation of historical buildings is one of them.


Dr. Reşat Oyguç, chairman of the organization mentioned that İstanbul being a bridge between two continents throughout history and drew attention to earthquake risk of this important historical city.


 Prof. Dr. Ünal Aldemir Director of İTÜ Earthquake Engineering and Disaster Management Institute pointed out the necessity to protect the historical structural heritage by referring to İstanbul's historical and geopolitical importance. 




 Prof. Dr. Yusuf Ayvaz Vice-Chancellor of Yildiz Technical University underlined that survival of historical structures depends on the studies of different disciplines working together on the subject of restoration and conservation of historical buildings. 

As well as researchers from various universities in Turkey, academicians from universities in America Belgium, Slovenia and Macedonia attended to the workshop as speakers where consequences of the earthquake on historical buildings and relevant vibratory table test results made on abroad were discussed especially.
