Maritime Faculty is in Çanakkale with SİSMİK-I

Faculty members and students of Maritime Faculty went to Çanakkale by the faculty’s training ship SİSMİK-I to celebrate the 100. Anniversary of 18 March Çanakkale Sea Victory and to commemorate Çanakkale martyrs.

During the trip that took place between 16-18 March 2015, training ship SİSMİK-I first anchored in Kepez Port. Training ship SİSMİK-I was welcomed by faculty members and students of Çanakkale 18 March University Marine Science Faculty and introduced to visitors by our students.

The program continued with a visit to the Martyrs’ Monument and wreath-laying. A moment of silence was observed in memory of the builders of the victory, Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, commanders of Çanakkale War and the martyrs who are nameless heroes.

After the War Cemetery, İTÜ members who visited Çanakkale Vessel Traffic Services Center were informed about the workings of the system in the center through the presentations made. Meanwhile, another team made up of faculty members and ship crew visited the Port Authority. The tour concluded with a visit to Çanakkale 18 March University Marine Science Faculty Museum.

On Tuesday, 18 March, the ship left Kepez Port and a ceremony in memory of the martyrs was held on the sea. A moment of silence was observed with training ship SİSMİK-I in front of the Mehmetçik Monument, Turkish National Anthem was sung and a wreath and smoke flares were laid to the sea. After the conclusion of the ceremony at the sea, the return journey started and SİSMİK-I anchored in Tuzla, where İTÜ Maritime Faculty is, on the morning of Thursday, 19 March 2015.
