100 Projects by High School Students Competed in İTÜ

İTÜ hosted for the 4th time the regional final of “TÜBİTAK Secondary School Student Project Contest” organized for the 46th time this year. In the İstanbul European Region Final attended by 180 students from 61 schools, the winners of the projects exhibited between 30 March – 1 April 2015 will be announced in the award ceremony to be held on Thursday, 2 April.


During the 46th TÜBİTAK Secondary School Student Project Contest’s regional final, 61 schools from İstanbul’s European Side, Edirne, Kırklareli and Tekirdağ were in İTÜ Ayazağa Campus – Süleyman Demirel Cultural Center for 3 days.


A total of 100 projects in computer, biology, physics, sociology, psychology, history, mathematics, chemistry, geography and literature categories were exhibited. More than 5,000 people in 3 days visited the projects introduced through prototypes, models and posters by students pursuing innovative ideas.


Rector Prof. Mehmet Karaca also visited the stands in the regional final to which İTÜ students and academicians besides outside visitors showed great interest. Our Rector, who received information about the student projects, congratulated the youngsters for being curious and pursuing production of innovation and wished them success in the final.


Vice-Rector Prof. İbrahim Özkol who acts as Coordinator of İstanbul European Region for TÜBİTAK Secondary School Students Research Contests, also took a close interest in the projects and kept the students company during the exhibition.


During the activity, very colorful comments were left on the İTÜ message board installed on SDCC’s ground floor. The students wrote numerous messages containing both the excitement of the contest and their admiration for İTÜ.


Exhibition accompanied by a cocktail

The students and the teachers were together in the cocktail given by İTÜ on Tuesday, 31 March, too. Rector Prof. Mehmet Karaca attended to the students personally and Vice-Rectors and Advisors to the Rector together with academicians from various faculties also attended the reception at İTÜ RAG. The students had a chance to converse about the projects and relieve their fatigue.

İstanbul European Region Final Award Ceremony to be hosted again by İTÜ will be held on Thursday, 2 April at 10:00. The great final of the contest will be held in Ankara in May.
