Innovation Camp for High School Students was in İTÜ

High school students went to innovation camp in İTÜ, hosted by İTÜ Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation (GİNOVA). “2. GE – Junior Achievement Innovation Camp” organized on Saturday, 28 March in collaboration with General Electric (GE) Turkey and Junior Achievement Education Foundation opened up new horizons for the students in discovering their entrepreneurship and creativity skills.

64 students from 8 different high schools attended GE – Junior Achievement Innovation Camp held in İTÜ. The students competed with the innovative ideas they developed in energy, healthcare and industrial internet fields. İTÜ GİNOVA General Manager Prof. Şebnem Burnaz made an opening speech to the students before the project presentations. Burnaz talked about the importance of entrepreneurship and İTÜ GİNOVA’s mission and noted how valuable being able to produce innovative ideas is for the world of future. İTÜ Publicity Coordination Office also made a short presentation to the students and noted the importance İTÜ gives to R&D, entrepreneurship and innovation and described the efforts in this context.

The theme is energy efficiency

During the camp, the students were asked to come up with a solution for one of the subjects given to them by GE and to make a presentation to the jury by transforming the solutions they found into business plans with the support of their mentors. Within this context, they were expected to imagine and design a futuristic world that will provide better energy efficiency in energy, healthcare and industrial internet fields or a futuristic industrial world that will increase efficiency from production to marketing and sales. The students produced ideas on the subjects and presented the projects they prepared to the jury at the end of the camp.

The members of the jury were GE Healthcare Global Product Manager Bertay Fişekçi, İTÜ Management Engineering Department Faculty Member and İTÜ GİNOVA Executive Committee Member Prof. Nihan Yıldırım, TEB Entrepreneurship House Startup Business Banking Manager İbrahim Coşkuner, Intel Corporate Affairs Manager Onur Yıldırım, Borsa İstanbul (İstanbul Stock Exchange) Private Market Director Recep Bildik, Vestel Electronics General Manager Metin Salt, Arkan & Engin Corporation Financial Consultant and Junior Achievement Volunteer Doğan Taşkent. The jury made an evaluation based on business plan, creativity, presentation technique and team spirit criteria during the evaluation process.

Recycling project takes first place

At the end of the all-day camp, the project “AT-MAK” in which packaging wastes are recycled and that aims to promote recycling by a smart device that loads the transportation cards of users took the first place. The champion team will receive various training from GE leaders, attend meetings and have the opportunity to meet GE technologies by visiting Turkish Technology Center in Gebze during 3 days within the context of GE GENIUS program. On the other hand, the winner team will be given training and consultancy toward their career by GE leaders and current trainees within the context of the coaching program.
