From Hive to Table Congress on 21-22 May

The most comprehensive academic-sectoral meeting of beekeeping is taking place with international participation.

“From Hive to Table 2015 - International Congress on Safety and Authenticity of Bee Products” will be organized on 21-22 May 2015. International Honey Competition will take place as part of the congress. During the congress all food safety issues in honey and other bee products, particularly adulteration, will be handled.

“From Hive to Table 2015” will be organized at İstanbul Steigenberger Hotel Maslak (formerly the Sheraton Hotel) with the collaboration of Department of Food Engineering of İTÜ, Istanbul Development Agency (ISTKA), Department of Food Engineering of Yıldız Technical University, Faculty of Agriculture of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and CRA-API (Honey Bee and Silkworm Unit of the Council for Research and Experimentation in Agriculture). Recent subjects will be addressed and information will be exchanged in the congress that will bring sectoral representatives, scientists, beekeeping and bee product experts together.

An international exhibition will take place simultaneously with the congress. The exhibition will provide a comprehensive sharing platform for the packaging companies, importers, exporters, producers of bee products and beekeeping equipment, representatives of the laboratory services and equipment sector and the opportunity to survey new products.

International Honey Competition

“International Honey Competition” to be organized as part of the congress will bring together honey producers from various countries. Honey samples will be evaluated by a jury composed of International Honey Commission (IHC) - Sensory Analysis Group members to determine the top ranking products. Top ranking beekeepers will be given certificates and awards. A poster competition will also take place during the congress.

Competitors taking the first three places will be given prizes. After the congress a sectoral workshop will be held at YTU on Saturday, 23 May 2015 within the context of “Bee Products Center Of Excellence Project” supported by ISTKA. The goal of the workshop is determining the R&D topics and requirements needed by SMEs currently in the sector, discussing project topics on a joint study platform and increasing university-industry collaboration.
