PhD Student Bukra Kalaycı Wins “Green Talents” Award

Bukra Kalaycı, a PhD student of ITU in Sustainable Textile Production, became the first Turkish Textile Engineer honoured with the first prize at the ‘Green Talents’ Forum held in Germany.

Bukra Kalaycı, who participated in the 7th ‘Green Talents – International Forum for High Potentials in Sustainable Development’ hosted by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), was chosen from a  vast number of researches. The applicants to the Forum come from numerous countries to present their achievements in sustainability. 26 projects in total were presented with the award.


Within the “Green Talents Forum,” Bukra Kalaycı received an award for her research conducted under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Cevza Candan ‘Developing methods for the EU’s sustainable production and consumption, specifically for a green and competitive textile industry’.


Thanks to her Jean Monnet Fellowship, Bukra is currently studying sustainable development in BENECON, Italy. Her research focuses on a comprehensive approach to greener practices in the textile industry. As part of the award Kalaycı will be given the unique opportunity to conduct a short research stay at the Technical University of Berlin in 2016.
