ITU Turkish Musical Community Wins the Hearts with Folk Songs

The ensemble of ITU Turkish Music State Conservatory (TMSC) performed a concert at Sezai Karakoç Culture Center of Bülent Ecevit University on 11 December, Friday. The spectators had an unforgettable evening listening to the repertory of the ensemble composed of traditional and folk songs.

The concert, played under the supervision of Prof. Cihangir Terzi, was attended by the Governor of Zonguldak Ali Kaban, the Mayor of the city Muharrem Akdemir, the Chief Public Prosecutor Necip Topuz, the Head of the Regional Administrative Court Neşe Kurt, the Rector Prof. Dr. Mahmut Özer, the Gendarme Commander Halûk Selvi, the Chief of Police Osman Ak, BEU Senate members, academic and administrative staff members, students and the music lovers of Zonguldak.
The musical ensemble was comprised of Assist. Prof. of ITU TMSC Sinem Özdemir, the artist from TRT Istanbul Radio Celal Bakar, Ali Tüfekçi (ney), Cenk Öztürk (bass violin), Serkan Halili (zither), Zafer Taşdan (oboe and balaban), Serhat Turunç (tar), Kadir Verim (kemenche), Erdem Şimşek (baglama).

The conductor started the concert with instrumental musical composition called “Hüsnübaz Notalar” which was accompanied by the spectators. The Zonguldak folk song called “Karadır Kaşların Ferman Yazdırır” won a huge ovation from the public. The ensemble which appeared on the stage again at the end of the concert performed one more traditional Zonguldak folk song called “Gidiyom Gidemiyom” (Çaycuma) and won the hearts of the audience.
The Governor Ali Kaban, invited to the stage at the end of the concert, presented a plaque to the conductor Terzi, flowers to the ensemble members and thanked the saz players.
