New Targets in European Union Projects Have Been Identified

Administration of Istanbul Technical University met ITU European Union Project Coordinators in “Project Coordinators Meeting” held in Senate Room in Rectorate Building on Friday, March 18, 2016.

During the meeting held with the participation of our Rector Prof. Dr. Mehmet Karaca, the views and recommendations are shared for increasing the participation of EU Programs and the things that can be done to move the achievements of ITU in the period of EU 7. Framework Program much more forward were discussed by the participants.

Speaking at the opening of Project Coordinators Meeting, Our Rector Prof. Dr. Mehmet Karaca stated that, as the university administration, their primary goal is to increase the number of the projects undertaken by ITU Coordinatorship and he emphasized the support provided for this by the university. Head of ITU EU Center Research Office, Prof. Dr. Tüzin Baycan made a presentation titled “The Performance of European Union Projects of ITU.

In her presentation, Prof. Dr. Tüzin Baycan evaluated the application and success rates in Faculties and Departments up to now by comparing the performance of ITU in EU projects with the ones in other universities. She informed that, up to now, 96 project applications were made from ITU and 7 out of 79 projects evaluated were accepted, and 10 projects were evaluated as supra-threshold projects within Horizon 2020 Program of European Union to be held in 2014-2020. Prof. Dr. Baycan stated that the number of successful projects of ITU within Horizon 2020 Program is at the same level when compared to the ones in other universities, and ITU, Boğaziçi University, Sabancı University and ODTU have 7 successful projects in comparison with 9 successful projects of Bilkent University.
Following the evaluations and recommendations of our researchers, Project Coordinators Meeting ended with Our Rector’s presentation of Certificates of Appreciation to the project coordinators.
