AND NOW CEVDEK EREK IS AT VENICE BIENNIAL!

The project of Cevdet Erek, a lecturer at ITU, will be exhibited in the leading contemporary art exhibition in the world, Venice Biennial which is held biennially in Venice, Italy. 

The project team, which Cevdet Erek will collaborate with at the Pavillion of Turkey at La Biennale di Venezia to be held for the 57th time between 13 May and 26 November 2017 and coordinated by the Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts (IKSV), will be announced in the proceeding months.

FROM ARCHITECTURE TO SOUND ENGINEERING…

Graduating from Architecture Department in Mimar Sinan University, Erek studied Sound Engineering & Design at ITU Dr. Erol Üçer Center for Advanced Studies in Music (MIAM). Right after this, he was a guest artist Rijksakademie in Amsterdam.

Among the major solo exhibitions of the artist, a lecturer at Istanbul Technical University, are “Alt Üst” (Spike Island, Bristol, 2014) and “Week” (Kunsthalle Basel, 2012).

Also, our artist has many valuable books. Erek’s books such as North Rhine, SSS-Shore Scene Soundtrack awarded by Nam June Paik Media Arts Award given by Westphalia Art Foundation, Room of Rhythms 1 and Less Empty Maybe are greeted with interest.

Cevdet Erek’s installations and performances that focus on sound, space and rhythm were shown in leading event and art centers of the world. dOCUMENTA (13) (2012), Istanbul Biennial (2003, 2013 and 2015), Sharjah Biennial (2013), Stedelijk Museum (2014), MAXXI (2014 and 2015), Arter (2011), SALT (2012 and 2015) are among these.

Cevdek Erek’s work named Room of Rhythms- Long Distance Relationship is still on display at Sydney Biennial held for the 20th time this year. The work concentrating on sound, architecture and rhythms of daily life focuses on history of union campaigns in Cockatoo Island, work stoppage/slowdown strikes to reduce the working hours of workers and relationships of musical rhythms.
