ITU Welcomed the Rector of Berlin Technical University

Gradually taking place in every area of our lives, digital technology also brings a new life style, a new city life and a new perspective in its wake. In this regard, Dr. Christian Thomsen, the President of Berlin Technical University and the Co-initiator of the Berlin Task Force on Digitalization, met the academic staff and students from ITU in the talk titled “Digital University and Digitalization Activities in Berlin”.

Our rector Prof. Dr. Mehmet Karaca, our Vice-Rector Prof. Dr. Ali Fuat Aydın, Deans of ITU, academic staff and students attended the talk held at ITU Ayazağa Campus in National High Performance Computing Center on May 17, 2016.

Prof. Dr. Thomsen evaluated the conditions in Berlin and ongoing digitalization activities. Stating that “Theoretical knowledge is always important but practical knowledge is crucial in engineering education.”, Thomsen shared his experiences about Berlin Digital Agenda, the most important step to turn Berlin into an IT center, and how the scientists in Berlin will contribute to digital future.

In memory of that day, our rector Prof. Dr. Mehmet Karaca presented a plague to Thomsen who answered the questions from the academic staff and students. After the talk, Prof. Dr. Thomsen and our Rector visited the laboratories of ITU Informatics and got information from the researchers at ITU about the studies being carried out.
