Our university, which carries on scientific activities even during summer time, hosted the second Earth Observation Satellites Summer School (UYGU). In the scope of the UYGU Summer School organized by the Institute of Earthquake Engineering and Disaster Management between 13-16 June young researchers pursuing their postgraduate studies met with delegates of various organizations and shared their vision of the future in the relevant field.

The total of 30 participants including doctorate students of different Turkish universitites, delegates of Turkish Petroleum, TÜBİTAK UZAY and TÜBİTAK BİLGEM as well as postgraduate students and PhD researchers working on multidimensional remote sensing data and applications attended the four-day summer school supported by IEEE GRSS, ITU and TÜBİTAK. The opening speech of the event was delivered by our Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Ali Fuat Aydın.

UYGU 2016 Summer School, which provided a number of opportunities with respect to the development of common learning resources, focused on such important subjects as data procession of satellite earth observation, appying these data in various fields and using radar techniques to obtain statistical data. In addition, the subjects concerning enhancing the utilization of the satellite data in our country and the role of interaction between disciplines while using various satellite earth observation data were also discussed during the UYGU Summer School.

In the scope of the program the scholars of the best European universities like ETH Zurich as well as the scholars of Turkish universities professionals in the field, gave lectures on the satellite earth observation data assessment, starting with the fundamental issues and proceeding to the advanced level and fields of application.
