Graduation Excitement at ITU Maritime Faculty

Students of ITU Maritime Faculty experienced the joy of graduation on the Maritime and Cabotage Day celebrated on the 1st of July at a ceremony held at ITU Tuzla Campus.


This significant ceremony uniting 94 graduates of ITU Departments of Maritime Transportation and Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering was attended by the Dean of ITU Maritime Faculty Prof. Dr. Oğuz Salim Söğüt along with ITU Rector Prof. Dr. Mehmet Karaca.


World’s Leading Brand in Maritime

ITU Rector Prof. Dr. Mehmet Karaca, who started his speech by stating that ITU, as the world’s leading university in maritime, was founded under the name of “Mühendishane-i Bahr-i Hümâyun” (Imperial School of Naval Engineering) becoming the first maritime school in our country, underlined that this area will always guarantee a stable job for our graduates; moreover, ITU Maritime Faculty alumni do not experience any difficulties at finding a job at international maritime companies. He also added that our ITU Maritime Faculty alumni would fully appreciate the knowledge they received at ITU as soon as they start working emphasizing that graduation is not an end but only a step they take in the life marathon. At the end of his speech our Rector wished all the graduates luck and success in their new stage of life.


The Dean of the Leading Maritime Faculty Prof. Dr. Oğuz Salim Söğüt while speaking about professional workforce in the field of maritime indicated that the faculty is aiming at raising individuals – future leaders able to think globally concerned about the environment with strong social ties showing respect for ethical values cherishing sea and knowing it in detail and having a strong disciplined hardworking character. He also added that ITU Maritime Faculty has been successfully retaining its place as a leader in maritime respecting the freedom of thought, individual development, team spirit and old maritime traditions.


Due to a number of existing international collaborations with ITU Maritime Faculty its students benefit from educational opportunities abroad having a possibility to work in various multinational companies.
