Professor Mehmet Omurtag Elected as President of Turkish National Committee for Mechanics

Prof. Mehmet Omurtag of the Department of Civil Engineering has been elected as the president of Turkish National Committee for Mechanics (TUMTMK). The 40-year-old committee aims to encourage and promote the study of theoretical and applied mechanics, build links between scholars of mechanics and cognate subjects and national or international institutions, and organizing national and international conferences on mechanics.

Prof. Omurtag will serve as the president for two years. Executive committee members of the TUMTMK are Vice President Prof. Abdullah Avey of Suleyman Demirel University, Secretary-general Prof. Nazmiye Yahnioglu of Yildiz Technical University, Treasurer Assoc. Prof. Nihal Eratlı of Department of Civil Engineering at ITU, and Webmaster Assist. Prof. Besim Baranoglu of Atilim University.
