ITU Graduates Turkish Music Ensemble Took The Stage in Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus

Pursuing their studies under the leadership of General Art Director and the Chief İnci Çayırlı, ITU Alumni Turkish Music Ensemble (ITU MTMT) gave two concerts on November 13 and 14 as a part of 33th Anniversary celebrations.

Memorable works composed in hicaz and nihavend in Turkish Music were performed in the concerts presented by Cem Kafkas, an Art Advisor of ITU MEDEK and a Turkish Art Music artist, and in the concert directed by the chief of choral and instrumental team, a fiddle artist Ahmet Kadri Rizeli, serving as an arranger-director and chief in TRT. The live performance of Safinaz Rizeli with qanun, Ahemt Kırım with oud, Asım Ekren with bendir and chorus with 24 people received great applause from the audience. Among the audience of the first concer, Mustafa Lakadamyal, TRNC Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, offered his cogratulations to the community after the concert.

Assoc. Prof. Serdar Kum, the Vice-Rector of North Cyprus, Assist. Prof. Aslı Çekmiş, Advisor to the Rector of ITU North Cyprus, Dursun Koç, General Secretary of ITU North Cyprus, Hüseyin Şimsek, the Head of Yunus Emre Institution were among the audience of the second concert in which the Mayor of Gazimağusa İsmail Arter and his wife were the guests of honor. The last song of the concert was “İzmir Benim Van Benim” of Yıldırım Gürses in his death anniversary.

The community members took a tour of the cultural and natural beauties in North Cyprus, visited ITU North Cyprus Campus and watched a presentation on the works carried in the university by Assist. Prof. Aslı Çekmiş, Advisor to the Rector of ITU North Cyprus.

Following the concerts, attending the Reception of Republic held by the President of TRNC Mustafa Akıncı, on November 15, ITU MTMT members met Mr. Akıncı and his wife, and also Mehmet Ali Talat, the second President of TRNC, Derviş Eroğlu, the third President of TRNC, Ömer Paç, Cyprus Turkish Peace Forces Commander Lieutenant General,

Attending the Reception, Assist. Prof. Osman Sınav, ITU MTMT Executive Board Chairman, a graduate of ITU Mechanical Engineering Department in 1976, a lecturer at Beykent University, said that: “With our music, we brought the sound of ITU to Cyprus. As a community, we dedicate our concerts to our precious teacher İnci Çayırlı, who couldn’t be with us now because of her health issues. We would like to present our thanks to the audience in North Cyprus who showed sincere hospitality to us.

Also, Deniz Yayın, a member of ITU MTMT, a graduate of Civil Engineering Department in 1980, cinema director and presenter, made a radio program on “Cyprus and Yeşilcam” on Bayrak Radio.
