Career Tips for Our Students from Soft Skills Academy

Who wouldn’t want to have the necessary skills when setting out on a career journey? We’re certain that candidates who are able to make successful presentations, have a strong persuasion ability, and have confident body language as well as an impressive and smooth speech style will be one step ahead in the business world. For this reason, we hope that by hosting this first event by the Soft Skills Academy organized by the Istanbul chapter of the European Electrical Engineering Students Association (EESTEc LC Istanbul), we will have already begun to shape our students' future.

EESTEc LC Istanbul who organizes training for the personal development of its members with the aim of training social engineers hosted, for the first time this year, training by the Soft Academy, held on December 17th and 18th at the Ayazağa Campus Süleyman Demirel Cultural Center. This year, with an emphasis on career planning, our students received tips from experts to optimize the process that starts with graduation. Presenters at the Soft Skills Academy events included; Writer and professional coach Arda Ös, MVM Digital Founder and personal coach Fikret Şahin, President of International NLP Trainers Association (INLPTA) Turkey and Behaviorist Fatih Abadi, and International EESTEc Educator Burcu Reyhan Ok. Throughout the two-day event, our students, in two different groups of 40, were trained in key issues such as CV preparation, the career process in a digital world and effective communication in the business world.

Secrets to Success from Professionals

On the first day of the event, the lecturer, writer and professional coach Arda Ös gave a presentation on "The Job Creating CV" and shared some tips on how to prepare a good résumé. In the day's other training session, MVM Digital Agency founder and personal coach Fikret Şahin met with participants through his presentation titled "Your Digital Footsteps". Sahin said in his presentation that a new era has begun where it will be more important to know who you really are rather than the knowledge you possess. Saying that brands, just like people, have their own “character”, Şahin emphasized the effectiveness of social media and shared his views on how it could be used more effectively.

The second day of the Soft Skills Academy training started with INPLTA Turkey’s President and Behaviorist Fatih Abadi’s presentation of "Mind Planning and Positive Thinking Techniques". Abadi who discussed the effects basic requirements like sleeping, eating and breathing have on our daily lives, went on to present the working mechanism of the human brain, how it is unable to distinguish between "virtual" and "real", how it always perceives words as positive, the working principles of visual memory and the working rhythm of the brain. In the closing session, EESTEC Educator Burcu Reyhan Ok, in her presentation, "Emotional Intelligence and Leadership", discussed the definition of emotional intelligence, the difference between the concepts of "feeling" and "emotion", and conducted a small interactive anecdotal group study. At the end of the training, all students received certificates signed by the Turkish Ministry of Culture and Sports.
