Prizes Awarded at the Food Engineering Club's R&D Ideas Competition

Prizes were awarded at the third ITU GMK R&D Ideas Competition organized yearly by the Food Engineering Club. The awards ceremony for the competition which is open to all food engineering students in our country, was held at ITU ARI Teknokent's ARI-6 Building Conference Hall.

Many guests attended the ceremony including ITU’s Faculty of Chemical and Metallurgical Engineering Dean, Prof. Dr. Beraat Ozcelik, Food Engineering Department Head Prof. Dr. Gürbüz Güneş, and AROMSA A.Ş Human Resources Coordinator Songül Öncel. Food Engineering Club Secretary Elif Özcü, who emceed the ceremony, said that the Food Engineering Club was a family, that the members who had come before her had carried the club to this point with great effort and that they would all try their best to move it even further. Özcü added that the strength needed to achieve this would come from working together.

The awards were given to the attendees by Prof. Dr. Gürbüz Güneş following an introductory video of the club. Our Head of Department also underlined that the awards were important to increase R & D work in the field of food. Faculty of Chemical and Metallurgical Engineering Dean, Prof. Dr. Beraat Özçelik expressed satisfaction with the students' work. Our presenter, Songül Öncel, stated that they will continue to support the students.

The poster award at the ITU GMK R&D Ideas Competition, went to Ayşegül Güney, Kübra Şenal and Hülya Irmak from Ömer Halisdemir University for their project "Quinoa Breakfast Cereal". Prof. Gözde Aşçı and Enes Korkmaz from Pamukkale University were awarded the first prize for their project "Production of Biscuits from White Quinoa Flour"; the second prize was awarded to Cem Yazar from Bayburt University for his study titled "Information System for Empowering the Disabled". The winner of the third place prize was Food Engineering Department students Emre Demir, Ravza Tekin and Ecre Şahinoğlu for their work titled "Blueberry Cream Filled Chocolate with Flax Seed Particles".
