Experts Addressed Our Students at the 7th Clean Energy Days Event

While clean energy investments are growing rapidly all over the world, exchanges of ideas on this subject also pave the way for the production of new technologies. Clean Energy Days, the seventh of the yearly event organized by the ITU Electrical Engineering club, was held at the Ayazağa Campus between March 9 and 11.

The event was opened by a concert organized by the students followed by a talk by our Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Ali Fuat Aydın who said that music is a universal language and that he was happy to start Clean Energy Days with such a beautiful performance. Aydın celebrated the 170 student clubs at our university on their organization of such distinct and special events. Faculty of Electrical and Electronic Engineering Dean Prof. Dr. Serhat Şeker stated that our Electrical Engineering Club has been following Clean Energy Days since 2011 noting how important it was to bring this successful organization to an international level.

In addition to Prof. Dr. Ali Fuat Aydın, Faculty of Electrical and Electronic Engineering Dean Prof. Dr. Serhat Şeker, Head of Electrical Engineering Department Dr. Belgin Emre Türkay, TEG'17 General Coordinator Tunahan Saygılı, and Chairman of the Board of Electrical Engineers Club, Ibrahim Onur Aydoğan as well as many students attended.

Clean energy and its future impact was discussed.

The topics discussed during the first session of Clean Energy Days were wind energy and the future of this energy. Gülşah Altıkulaç of the Turkish Wind Energy Association, Ömer Emre Orhan of Borusan Energy Wind and Solar Engineering and Ercan Muti, General Director of Bozkır Energy, discussed new technologies in wind energy, wind turbines, and wind energy plant process management in Turkey and in the world.

The first session of the event was held under the heading Energy and Innovation for a Sustainable Life. Following a speech by REENGEN Founding Partner Şahin Çağlayan on "IoT Practices in Energy Management", Hello Tomorrow Turkey's President Timur Topalgökçeli gave a talk titled "New Energy Models for Turkey and the World" followed by Mehmet Ali Keçiciler's talk, "The Future of Smart Cities"; the day wrapped up with a session on hydropower energy by Erim Arıcı, Director of Bereket Energy Electric Group.

The second day of the event kicked off with a session on solar energy systems by 7th Clean Energy Days coordinator, Melik Buğra Özçelik. Guests in this session included General Secretary of the Solar Energy Industry Association (GENSED) Hakan Erkan, Levent Karaman from Bereket Energy, TYT Solar General Manager Cemil Cihan Özalevli, and General Manager of Teknoray Solar, Mehmet Özenbaş. Under the second day’s theme of "Effective Energy: Saving and Efficiency", sessions included "Innovative Storage Technologies" by Alper Sina Yaman, "Smart Grids" by Prof. Dr. Belgin Emre Türkay, and "Smart and Green Buildings" by Erhan Kaya. The second day of renewable energy ideas wrapped up with a session on Alternative Energy in Transportation with Chairman of the Turkish Electric and Hybrid Vehicle Platform (TEHAD), Berkan Bayram.

The last day of the TEG'17 event started with coordinators Ayşe Nur Köklü and Abzal Zhanbirov taking the stage to give their talks. Mehmet Özdağ participated in the last day's Energy Market and Trade session with his talk on "An Overview of Energy Policies in Turkey", followed by Melis Bilgiç Aksarı’s "Energy Exchange and Trade", Baris Şanlı’s "Basic Concepts and Market Structure, Legislation Infrastructure and Electricity Market Components", and Nurullah İpekli’s "Domestic Product Use in Renewable Energy Plants". The 7th Clean Energy Days wrapped up with a remarkable public discussion on the subject of "Industry 4.0 Technology and Humans from the Distant Past to the Near Future" with participation from Sedat Sami Ömeroğlu. TEG'17 participants bid farewell to the event with a concert from the group Vera.
