The convoy was greeted by 18th March University Faculty of Marine Sciences and Technology Dean, Prof. Dr. Fatma Arık Çolakoğlu and a delegation consisting of the lecturers and students. After a meeting held in the ship’s conference hall, the team proceeded to Eceabat visiting the site of the Gelibolu Peninsula Campaign, the Mehmetçik Monument, Anzac Cove, and the 57th Regiment. Here, a wreath was laid to honor foremost Veteran Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, his fellow men-at-arms, and the martyrs followed by a moment of silence and a singing of the National Anthem. After our memorial ceremony, the convoy visited the Çanakkale Saga Information Center.

In the next step of the trip, the delegation who visited Captain Rıdvan Gezgin, Director of Çanakkale Maritime Traffic Control Center Services, also participated in a seminar. At the end of the idea-sharing seminar, an overall consensus was reached for forming a strong collaboration in order to create projects related to the prevention of accident risks and environmental hazards in the Dardanelles and Bosphorus straits with storm-related data provided from monitoring stations. At the seminar applied traffic control procedures were explained to the students with a focus on prevention of sea accidents, modeling case studies in a simulator, and reducing the danger caused by the effects of currents and whirlpools. Representatives of our faculty who also visited the Gallipoli Pilot Center had a chance to examine the Kurtaran-10 trailer.

On the occasion of the anniversary of the Victory, students, academics and administrative staff laid wreaths at the ship Sismik-1, the boat ÇÖMÜ-1, belonging to the Çanakkale 18th March University Faculty of Marine Sciences and Technology, and the martyrdom monument for Veteran Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, and his fellow men-at-arms, observing a moment of silence and once again singing our National Anthem.

This way, our Maritime Faculty students immortalized the 102nd anniversary of the Victory both by commemorating its architects, the martyrs and by receiving hands-on training. We, as the İTÜ Family, respectfully express our gratitude once again to Veteran Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, an important figure in the Victory, and our holy martyrs who made Çanakkale impenetrable.
