ITU Hosts Important Meeting for the Health Industry Revolution

Experts shared their strategies and experiences in the field of healthcare transition to Industry 4.0 at the Healthcare Industry 4.0 Symposium - USKAF II event.

Our country's key figures in the field of information and industry met at the Ayazağa Campus to exchange views on how the Industrial 4.0 revolution will shape the healthcare system. Representatives, academics and researchers from different sectors addressed innovative approaches, strategies and experiences with the emerging challenges of the healthcare industry transitioning to the Industry 4.0 phase, the challenges faced, and the benefits that are reflected on companies.

Our Rector Prof. Dr. Mehmet Karaca: “We will continue to contribute to Healthcare Industry 4.0."

Speaking at the National Quality in Health Forum II event, our Rector Prof. Dr. Mehmet Karaca noted that ITU was a technical university and that it had established a direct relationship with issues in the healthcare area. With reference to this, our Rector provided two examples: Dr. Mehmet Toner who has been selected by the US National Academy of Engineering (NAE) and Dr. Sadık Esener who leads the Oregon Health and Science University's Center for the Early Detection Research devoted to early diagnosis of cancer. Professor Dr. Mehmet Karaca stated that the University closely followed the development of the Industrial 4.0 revolution in the field of health and underscored the fact that Turkey needs to keep pace with the world in the process of Industry 4.0 in health and thus increasing the effect of our country in this area. The Rector concluded his speech with the following words, emphasizing that the views, knowledge and experiences to be shared in the symposium will direct the future of our country in this area: "As a technical university, we will continue to contribute to the realization of these studies with the most effective cooperation that will set a course for the future of Turkey"

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hatice Camgöz Akdağ: “Today there is a digital transformation occurring.”

Among the speakers at the event, our Faculty of Business Engineering Department instructor and Chairman of the Regulation Board of USKAF – II, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hatice Camgöz Akdag expressed her happiness that the meeting of the second USKAF was being organized at our university. Dr. Akdağ stated that rapid changes in the field of healthcare would be inevitable in the upcoming periods of Industry 4.0 due to the fact that major changes in the fields of science and technology are also experienced in the field of health and that digital transformation would alter traditional healthcare systems into a new structure.

Speaking to the USKAF – II audience, Kocaeli University Hospital Chief Physician Prof. Dr. Nuh Zafer Cantürk explained that, thanks to the "Health Transformation" program started in 2002, the scope of social security has expanded and that this has led to advancements in accessing healthcare services. Dr. Cantürk said that using technology at the highest level is extremely effective for a lasting and sustainable health system.

At the Healthcare Industry 4.0 Symposium, speakers shared their experiences to date with the audience through the following talks: “Internet of things” focusing on intelligent energy by Burak Aydın, Managing Director of Silver Spring Networks, responsible for Eastern Europe and the Middle East Market (EMEA), "Application of specific treatment for genomic age" by Sevgi Salman Ünver, who works on genetics and biotechnology at Genomedis Biotech, "Smart Solutions for Smart Health" by Medipol Group Strategic Management and Business Development Coordinator Mehmet Hızarcı, "Information Security in Health" by Eczacıbaşı Information Security Manager Kayıhan Altınöz, and "Information and Communication Technologies" by GE Healthcare Director Tolga Tuncer.
