Representatives from the Textile Sector Met at ITU

Textile engineering students, this time, met at our university for the 14th National Textile Engineering Student Congress (ÜTMÖK).

The event, which has been held annually since 2004, was held at our Maçka Campus May 5th-7th. Scientists, researchers, important names from the business world and university students who are continuing their education in the field came together at the Mustafa Kemal Amphitheater.

The ITU Textile Engineering Club (ITUTEK) organized this year’s event which aims to prepare textile engineering students from different universities for the business world, to provide young people with the guidance and necessary knowledge about the field, and to add value to the textile sector.

Prof. Dr. Ömer Berk Berkalp: “The textile industry has a bright future.”

Among the participants in the Congress, Faculty of Textile Technologies and Design Dean, Prof. Dr. Ömer Berk Berkalp talked about the importance of the textile sector for our economy. Stating that the students of the textile engineering department had a bright future in store, our Dean encouraged our young people to improve their personal skills. Professor at the Faculty of Textile Technologies and Design, Dr. Nevin Çiğdem Gürsoy also spoke to the young people. Gürsoy, after congratulating the students who organized the congress this year, stated that students in the field of textile could gain different experiences even during their university years, so that they could learn basic professional knowledge after graduation. Honorary Chairman of Sanko Holding and TOBB Turkish Textile Industry Assembly Chairman Abdulkadir Konukoğlu, who also spoke at ÜTMÖK approached the issue from a private sector viewpoint. Konukoğlu expressed his views with: "the flag of Turkey still flies in textiles today; Turkey, will have many years this area."

Our other guests at the event included Istanbul Textile and Raw Materials Exporters Union President, İsmail Gülle, Mediterranean Textile and Raw Materials Exporters Union President Zeki Kıvanç and famous fashion designer, Ivana Sert. At the event which also exhibited student works, Fashion in Industry (FIT) preparatory class student Şeyma Çayhan, who participated with 7 works, stated how important it was that students of the congress share their knowledge and exchange opinions, and how instructive it was to come together with important names from the textile sector.

In addition to our university, welcomed textile engineering students from Çukurova University, Uludağ University, Dokuz Eylül University, Ege University, Erciyes University, Gaziantep University, Istanbul Aydin University, Kahramanmaraş Sütcü Imam University, Marmara University, Namık Kemal University, Pamukkale University, Süleyman Demirel University and Uşak University.
