APIS R&D Satellite Team First in World in Critical Design

The APIS R&D Satellite Team, which participated in the CanSat 2017 Competition, the most important competition for space technology held among universities, was selected as the world’s first in the critical design category.

Our team, with the support of Corendon Airlines, placed first, beating out more than 100 teams in the critical design category at the competition sponsored by United States National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).

The APIS R&D Satellite Team competed with the world's leading universities such as Princeton, Manchester, Virginia Tech etc. in the competition held June 9-11. By placing fourth in the overall category, our team also claimed top spot in Turkey and Europe. The 2017CanSat Competition is held annually by the American Space Society (AAS) and the American Aviation and Space Institute (AIAA).

About the ITU APIS R&D Satellite Team

The ITU APIS R&D Satellite Team, which was established in 2015 in order to comprehend today's technologies, to guide future technologies, and to educate individuals who will benefit our country in the field of technology, consists of 26 students who study in different departments. APIS is known for its successes from past to present.

The team, which had been appointed by TÜBİTAK to represent Turkey at the APSCO Cansat International Competition 2016, organized by the Asia-Pacific Space Agency Business Associations Organization (APSCO), where only one team from each member country can participate in the miniature satellite competition, emerged from the competition with a world first place prize. The team also placed first in Turkey and second in Europe at the AIAA CanSat Competition 2016 model satellite competition sponsored by NASA. Our team, representing our country in important international competitions, will also participate in the APSCO Cansat International Competition 2017 to be held in Mongolia this year, as well as the TURKSAT Model Satellite Competition to be held in Ankara on August 25-27.
