Twelve ITU members were tied for the first place prize, with three projects placing in the final of the Neighborhood Design Idea Contest, organized by the Provincial Bank, a subsidiary of the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization,

Award winning projects were determined in the Neighborhood Design Idea Competition organized by the Provincial Bank, a subsidiary of the Turkish Ministry of Environment and Urbanization. The competition was organized with the aim of exploring contemporary solutions in line with urban needs, contemporary architecture, engineering, urbanism, urban design, landscape and art, and developing the concept of a neighborhood. 111 projects participated in the first round of the competition with 8 projects being invited to the second round following evaluations by the jury. As a result of the jury’s long evaluation sessions, 3 projects involving 12 ITU members were tied for the first place prize and another 5 projects received honorable mention.

Neighbourhoods competed

Lecturer Dr. Serdar Kaya, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Meltem Erdem Kaya, Prof. Dr. Başak Demireş Özkul, and students and alumni, Elif Serdar, Ezgi Güler, Gökçe Şahin, Ömür Sözer Şenol, and Mine Çiçek of the Faculty of Architecture were deemed worthy of the tie for first prize with their project, Society's Common Memory Compatible Neighborhood [T.O.H.U.M]. The team also included Murat Demircan, Cansu Sarıkeçe, Elif Tuba Alhan Şimşek, and Damla İşcan. Our team, who selected the area of Bursa province, prepared their project taking into consideration the heterogeneous social structure of the region, green infrastructure, low-rise buildings, meeting places, daily common living areas, and green transportation areas.

Also representing our university in the tie for first place was a project by students and alumni Cansu Güreser, Ibrahim Tolga Han, and Elif Sarpaşar under the supervision of Lecturer Dr. Deniz Aslan of the Faculty of Architecture. The team also included architects Çağlar Barış, Ece Doğan, Sabriye Derya Yüce, and Önder Demircan. The final project to share the first place prize was a project by architect Ozan Gürsoy and Sinan Günay from our university.
