"The Ayazağa Campus has been a gateway to the city’s Green Campus projects for many years in the middle of Maslak, which is known for its traffic and skyscrapers. We have given our campus a very different look in the past 5 years as part of the Green Campus Project. We created an environment where the beauties of nature meet with wild life. These include cycling and walking paths, pedestrian-friendly pavement, landscape studies, on-campus lighting work, and different sports fields. ITU is an example of collecting the science and technology needed for a sustainable future, while collecting it with nature-friendly settlements that raise the quality of life. Our campuses have an atmosphere that is enjoyable and peaceful. Our effort to build a campus worthy of our identity, as we approach the 250th anniversary of our university, will continue to progress without slowing down."

Prof. Dr. Kındap: "Our new goal is creating a smart campus"

Our Vice Rector, Prof. Dr. Tayfun Kındap stated that the Green Campus is not just "green" by removing barriers and recycling, but also means that the campus can be maintained in a sustainable way both in terms of the its buildings and its infrastructure. He also stated that applications such as infrastructural studies and permeable concrete, which have been completed up to now, allow the green areas to be completely watered by the pond, and steps were taken to increase the number of bicycle and walking routes on campus to encourage the use of bicycles and to reduce the use of automobiles. Dr. Kındap stated that work continues at full speed for a more livable, aesthetic, meaningful and sustainable campus. Prof. Dr. Tayfun Kındap also stated that this could not have been achieved without the on-going collaborative efforts of the ITU Construction and Technical Department, teaching faculty Prof. Dr. Hayriye Eşbah Tunçay and Prof. Dr. Yasin Çağatay Seçkin. Dr. Kındap added that with the Green Campus project in place, the current goal is to also attain a "smart campus."

Dr. Tunçay who stated that they have presented a livable campus to ITU residents, that with the Green Campus project, the Ayazağa Campus has become a biologically diverse environment that is visited by all the Istanbulites, which requires less irrigation, provides stress reduction through trees, and reduced carbon footprint through carbon-absorbing plants. Dr. Tunçay stated that millions of plants were grown and many different species came to life in the Ayazağa Campus within the scope of the project, adding that they have also seen the benefits reflected on social life.
