Our PhD Students Return with First Place Prize in the Turkish Airlines Competition

The "Augmented Cube" team, founded by PhD students from our university, returned with "First Prize" from the "Travel Hackathon" competition organized by Turkish Airlines (THY).

Aiming to bring the digital passenger experience to the next level, THY organized the "Travel Hackathon" competition, which lasted 48 hours on the 24th and 25th of December. More than 300 teams participated in the competition in 4 categories examining the before flight, on-board, after the airport, and after the flight experiences.

THY passengers will experience increased reality in the aircraft with the support of ITU.

The "Augmented Cube" team’s ITU Computer Engineering PhD student Mustafa Esengün, and PhD student in Architectural Design Süheyla Müge Halıcı, won the "First Place Prize" and the "Saber Jury Special Award" in the category of plane with their SkylifeAR project. Members of the Augmented Cube team participating in the contest summarized Mustafa Esengün, Süheyla Müge Halıcı, Fırat Kaçmaz and Erkan Pancaroğlu’s project as follows: "the pages of the Skylife Magazine are animated with increased reality. Skylife AR offers creative content and an interactive experience. "

Team members who met when Augmented Cube was formed in the fall of 2017, decided to take part in the competition under the consultancy of Faculty of Architecture teaching staff, Prof Dr. Leman Figen Gül.
