ITU Radio

Throughout the years, ITU has been carrying out its mission as being a technological pioneer in the field of radio and television. To this end, ITU radio was established as the first university radio in 1945 and it has been broadcasting regularly ever since. In 1954, first radio transmitter with frequency modulation and in 1971 first stereo-FM transmitter have been developed and stereo broadcasting had started. ITU-TV being the first TV station of our country was established in 1953 and started broadcasting tests and continued to serve TRT until the TV infrastructure evolved through time and the establishment of İstanbul studios and TRT’s transmitters. But, due to TRT Law which held the TV and radio broadcasting monopoly all over the country, ITU discontinued the radio broadcasting done  every night and ITU-TV broadcasting done once a week. Our University radio, after a long period of pause, has completed the two year restructuring preparations and on the 72nd anniversary of our Republic, corresponding to October 29, 1995, started broadcasting both from channels via cable system FM (Asian side 92.4 MHz –European side 92.5 Mhz) and classical music broadcasting started from over the air around Ayazaga Campus FM on 103.8 MHz. Since the beginning of 1998, broadcasting over the internet has started. Mostly classical western music, rock and jazz genres are giving place in our broadcast. Academic announcements and annoucements about art events in our city are also presented in news. ITU Radio will continue on its educational and cultural functionality coherently in the new broadcast season with polyphonic music broadcasts.
