Accredited Undergraduate Programs

Accreditation, which refers to equivalence, is a title given by international organizations to universities that provide education at international standards by examining the programs of higher education institutions in the fields of applied science, engineering, technology and informatics. Thanks to accreditations, the education you will receive at İTÜ is proven to be at international level.

Institutions by which our university is accredited are; ABET, NAAB, IMO, IFLA.

ABET (Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology)

ABET is a non-profit US-based organization that accredits higher education institutions’ programs in applied science, engineering, technology and informatics.

Although there are many organizations around the world that inspect whether higher education programs are carried out within certain norms in terms of teaching processes and outputs, ABET is the leading institution in this field in terms of auditing approaches and methods, especially when it comes to the engineering programs.

İTÜ applied to ABET, the first and foremost important accreditation body in the world, to prove the worldwide equivalence of its education. İTÜ is the university with the most accredited programs in the world.

With its 25 programs with ABET accreditation, Istanbul Technical University has successfully demonstrated that it provides equivalent education with the most important universities in the USA.

NAAB (National Architectural Accrediting Board)

Department of Architecture at İTÜ is the first accredited architecture department in Turkey, through the accreditation given by NAAB. NAAB “substantial equivalency” certificate means that it is equivalent to US undergraduate and graduate architecture programs.

IMO (International Maritime Organization)

The International Maritime Organization is a United Nations organization, established by a convention accepted by the United Nations in 1948 (The Free Library, 2010) and officially started its work 10 years later, in 1958. Being a specialized agency of the United Nations, IMO is the global standard-setting authority for safety, security and environmental performance in international shipping. Its main role is to create a universally applicable regulatory framework for the maritime industry. IMO has introduced many codes and developed protocols on maritime safety, maritime business, marine pollution and other maritime related issues within the scope of this regulatory framework. The measures taken together with these codes and protocols ensure that the maritime sector, which takes place in 80% of global trade, continues its activities as a safe, environmentally friendly and energy efficient industry.

IMO is a program that ensures that students studying at İTÜ Marine Sciences have international equivalence.

IFLA (International Federation of Landscape Architects)

The first and only IFLA accreditation in Turkey is given to the Department of Landscape Architecture at İTÜ..

Our Landscape Architecture Department, which was established 15 years ago with a mission to play a pioneering role in the field of Landscape Architecture and to provide high quality education at international standards, is fully accredited by the International Federation of Landscape Architects.
